Indian Navy Marks A Successful Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile Firing

The Indian Navy on Tuesday marked the successful conduction of Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) firing from INS Visakhapatnam validating its capability to engage ‘Anti-Ship Missiles'.

According to reports, Indian Navy confirms developing MRSAM jointly with Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) at Bharat Dynamics (BDL) representing a self-reliant initiative of India, 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

The Navy in its Twitter post shared pictures of MRSAM and wrote about the successful firing.

The report suggests the MRSAM is an air defence system developed by DRDO and IAI and attracts active participation from private-sector and SMEs.

The first deliverable firing unit of the MRSAM System was received on 9 September 2021, while its army version was launched in December 2020, by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.

The missile is known for its severe saturation scenarios as the cutting-edge missile system has the capacity to hit multiple targets at a range of 70 kilometres.

An indigenously developed rocket motor and control system (FSV). it is comprised of several vehicles namely, Combat Management System (CMS), Advanced Long-Range Radar, Mobile Power System (MPS), Mobile Launcher Systems (MLS), Radar Power System (RPS), Reloader Vehicle (RV), and Field Service.

Meanwhile, the development of the MRSAM system also represents India and Israel's close partnership, strengthening both countries' defence industrial bases.
