German Navy Chief Vice Admiral Kay-Achim Schönbach tended his resignation late on Saturday over his comments in India that Ukraine never become a NATO member and cannot get back Crimea while adding to remarks that Russian President Vladimir Putin “probably” deserved respect. While Navy Chief spoke on the Ukraine crisis, it was his ‘tough remark’ on China which sent another flurry among the experts of geopolitics. In the wide-ranging talk at M-IDSA, Schoenbach said that India must forge wider military alliances internationally to shield itself against a potential war with China.

The German frigate FGS Bayern (F217) dropped anchor in Mumbai earlier today as a part of its seven-month deployment to the Indo-Pacific region. Germany considers the Indo-Pacific to be the entire region characterised by the Indian and the Pacific Oceans. The visit marks the last stop of the frigate’s deployment, which saw German Naval presence in the region after a decade. Germany and India are advocates of free trade. Also, the chief of the German Navy, Vice Admiral Kay-Achim Schönbach, is currently in New Delhi for high level consultations with his Indian Navy.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested the new generation nuclear capable ballistic missile ‘Agni P’ from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha at 1106 hrs on Saturday. The Agni P is a two-stage canisterised solid propellant ballistic missile with dual redundant navigation and guidance system. Tests were crucial to validate the new elements as new composites, propulsion systems, innovative guidance and control mechanisms, besides the latest navigation systems.

Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) sanctioned Kaveri Engine project in 1989. In a statement in the Parliament, Ministry of Defence declared that based on the technical know-how achieved over the years, there are 9 Full prototype engines and 4 core engines built and 3217 hours of engine testing conducted. It completed Altitude tests & Flying Test Bed (FTB) trials. So far, the funds released on the R&D of Kaveri Project is Rs 2105 crore.

DRDO has been building upon the success of Medium Range Surface to Air Missiles Systems for IAF. Now the task upon DRDO is to achieve such breakthroughs in developing indigenous aero- engine and marine engine. That includes Small Turbo Fan Engine for unmanned system that is put to test by DRDO.
