US To Provide $400 Million More In Military Aid To Ukraine: Pentagon

The United States is providing Ukraine with an additional USD 400 million in military aid and establishing a security assistance headquarters in Germany to manage all arms deliveries and military training for Ukraine, the Pentagon said on Friday.

The new command post, known as the Security Assistance Group Ukraine, implies a more permanent, long-term effort to continue assisting Kyiv in its struggle against Russia, according to Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh.

The USD 400 million includes contracts for 1,100 Phoenix Ghost drones, funding to refurbish 45 tanks and an additional 40 riverine boats, among other systems, according to the Pentagon.

The weapons will not be ready for immediate deployment to Kyiv since they are being bought through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). Weapons bought under USAI funding are obtained through longer-term industry contracts rather than from US weapons stocks.

Since the war began on 24 February, the United States has contributed more than USD 18.2 billion in guns and other equipment to Ukraine.
