US Announces Arms Sale Cost $1.1 Bn To Taiwan, Will Boost Defence Against China

The United States (US) has announced a new arms package of USD 1.1 billion to boost Taiwan's defence amid China's aggression toward the island nation.

This big announcement has been made after US MP and Speaker of House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.

The package includes USD 665 million for an early radar warning system to help Taiwan track incoming missiles and USD 355 million for 60 advanced Harpoon missiles.

Also, it includes 100 Sidewinder missiles worth USD 85.6 million for their air-to-air firepower. The US said that it is giving such a huge amount to Taiwan to stop China's military, diplomatic and economic pressure against Taiwan.

Meanwhile, China is carrying out military activities near the territory of Taiwan. Recently, a Chinese drone entered the border of Taiwan. However, Taiwan is also responding to China's challenges in the same way.

The island of Shiyu lies about 4 kilometres from the shore of Xiamen, China over which the drone was flying. After the shooting, the drone returned to the coastal city of China, Xiamen.
