Tehran To Receive Russian Su-35 Fighters In Coming Year: Iranian Lawmaker

Iran will receive a number of Su-35 fighter jets from Russia in the early days of the next Iranian year, which begins on 21 March, according to an Iranian lawmaker.

According to Xinhua, Shahriar Heydari, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, revealed in an interview published by Tasnim news agency that Iran had previously ordered the fighter jets.

The lawmaker also mentioned that Iran had ordered a number of defence and missile systems, as well as helicopters, the majority of which will be delivered soon by Russia.

Nasser Kanaani, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stated in December 2022 that cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in various areas, particularly the defence sector, is not directed against any third country.

Ukraine and some Western countries recently accused Iran of supplying suicide drones to Russia for use in Ukraine's ongoing conflict. Iran admitted to providing Russia with a few drones in the months leading up to the Ukraine conflict but denies supplying Moscow with unmanned aerial vehicles for use against Kyiv.
