Saudi Says Iran Plans For Attack On Kingdom, Tehran Denies Allegation

According to three US sources, Saudi Arabia has given evidence to American officials that Iran is planning an attack on the kingdom. However, Iran denied any plans to attack Saudi or Iraq on Wednesday.

Iran is going through a severe civil turmoil that called for the Islamic Republic's demise.

The concern about a future strike on Saudi Arabia has grown as the Biden administration criticises Tehran for cracking down on large protests and condemns it for sending hundreds of drones and technical assistance to Russia for its fight in Ukraine.

We are concerned about the dangerous picture and are in close contact with the Saudis via military and intelligence channels, we will not hesitate to defend our regional interests and partners, according to a statement from the National Security Council of the US.

According to one of the individuals who confirmed the intelligence exchange, there is a credible threat of an assault within the next 48 hours.

Based on the intelligence, no US embassy or consulate in the region has issued alerts or recommendations to Americans in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere in the Middle East. The officials were not authorised to make public comments and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

When asked about reports of intelligence supplied by the Saudis, Pentagon press secretary Brig Gen Pat Ryder said, "US military officials are worried about the threat posture in the region."

“We are in constant contact with our Saudi partners about any information they may have on that front, but, as we have said before and will say again, we will reserve the right to protect and defend ourselves regardless of where our personnel are stationed, whether in Iraq or elsewhere,” Ryder added.

US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said that America was concerned about the dangerous situation in that region.

However, Iran rejected that it was planning any attack on Saudi Arabia or Iraq in the midst of civil turmoil calling for the Islamic Republic's demise, stressing that it was attempting to build positive relations with its Middle Eastern neighbours.
