Pakistan Buys Six YLC-18A Radars From China For Its Air Force

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has purchased six YLC-18A radars from the China National Electronics Import and Export Corporation. Pakistan and China are set to start the coproduction of radar systems.

The YLC-18A radars are especially important for PAF as these medium-range radars have 3D capabilities that can find drones, cruise missiles and even low-flying aircraft. It can also be used as a low-altitude blinding radar for land air defence networks and a target search radar for air defence weapon systems.

Both countries, China and Pakistan are working on an upgradation plan. Under this plan, 10 YLC-6 radars will be replaced by the YLC-18 model.

China continues as Pakistan's closest defence ally, whereas Turkey is another China that consistently sells weaponry to Pakistan.

Recently, the United States also provided a USD 450 million F-16 support package to Pakistan that was not welcomed by India. Last week during his meeting, EAM S Jaishankar criticised the US for its USD 450 million F-16 deal with Pakistan.
