Chief of the Army Staff of Pakistan, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, is in the United States on an official visit, according to the Pakistan military media.
Bajwa will meet with US government representatives in a series of talks, including a trip to Langley, the CIA's main office and the Pentagon.
This visit is important as the army command transition is scheduled in November but it is expected that the government will extend his tenure as army chief once again. Also, the recent F-16 deal between Pakistan and the US creates a worrisome situation for India.
During his visit, Bajwa also met with the UN's Military Advisor to the Secretary-General, Birame Diop. During the meeting, both talked about shared interests as well as the overall security situation in the region, including the recent devastating flood in Pakistan, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The UN Military Advisor expressed his grief over the destruction and extended his deepest condolences to the victims' families. He promised his full support to Pakistan after a climate change-induced flood.
