Our Defence Cooperation Is Emerging Area Of Focus: High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh

The High Commissioner of India to the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Pranay Verma said that the defence industry cooperation between India and Bangladesh is an area of focus, an emerging partnership between the two countries. The commissioner was addressing a seminar on Indian Defence Equipment (SIDE) in Dhaka on Sunday.

Verma underlined the accomplishments of the Indian defence industry over the decade are driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’.

He invited the Bangladesh Armed Forces to benefit from India’s cost-effective and high-quality defence equipment and technology and proposed joint development and production of the same. 

Expressing India’s readiness to partner with Bangladesh in its defence modernization, a USD 500 million Defence Line of Credit extension between India to Bangladesh. Verma urged the defence industry of both countries to enjoy these arrangements.

The High Commission of India organised a seminar to promote defence industry cooperation between India and Bangladesh. High Commissioner Pranay Verma and the Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Bangladesh Army, Lt. Gen. Ata-ul Hakim Sarwar Hasan were the key speakers of the seminar.

The session was witnessed by several key Indian defence manufacturers, from both the public and private sectors and showcased detailed presentations on their defence products and platforms. 

The other eminent presents were representatives from Bangladesh Armed Forces, paramilitary forces as well as law enforcement agencies.

According to reports, Bangladesh CGS Lt Gen Hasan accoladed India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and proposed closer cooperation between the two sides that deepens the defence industry partnership.
