Morocco Buys TATA-made 92 Military Trucks, Strengthens Defence Ties With India

The Royal Armed Forces of Morocco got 92 six-wheeled military trucks manufactured by the Indian private sector as part of a major push for diplomatic relations between India and Morocco.

Tata Advanced System designed and built these trucks. This information was revealed in a report by the Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW).

Morocco's decision to buy TATA-made military trucks and strengthen its relations with India may shock Pakistan, which had hailed the Arab country's victory over global football powerhouse Portugal during the recent FIFA World Cup as a ‘victory of Islam.’

On Sunday, the Moroccan army confirmed that the military trucks from India were “about to be delivered” via the social media platform Twitter.

The IDRW shared photos on social media of 92 LPTA 244 six-wheeled trucks ready to be exported to Morocco from India's west coast port of Pipavav.

The Military Africa website describes the trucks’ characteristics, stating that they can be converted into armoured vehicles and used in a variety of ways.

Morocco's purchase of military trucks from India is part of the country's efforts to diversify its arms purchases in order to strengthen and upgrade its military with cutting-edge equipment.

In December 2022, American company L3Harris Technologies announced the signing of a USD 29 million deal with Morocco to provide a smart weapon release system' to boost the firepower of the African country's F-16 fighter aircraft.

Morocco is strengthening ties with the United States and Israel.

Morocco prioritises military cooperation with countries with some of the world's most powerful militaries, including the United States and Israel.

When Morocco reached the FIFA World Cup semi-finals in Qatar, Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan referred to it as a “Muslim team” victory.

Apart from Imran Khan, a large section of the political class and general public in Pakistan had hailed the victory of Morocco as a ‘victory of Islam.’
