The German Air Force (Luftwaffe) is conducting a joint exercise with Indian colleagues for the first time.
The “Tarang Shakti Phase 1” manoeuvre – also involving the Spanish, French and British air forces – will take place from 6 to 13 August in the airspace of India with the world’s biggest population of 1.4 billion.
Luftwaffe Inspector General Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz said India was an important partner for Germany and Europe.
On a visit to New Delhi in June 2023, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius proposed that the two countries engage in closer collaboration.
The flights over India mark the end of the German armed forces “Pacific Skies 24” exercise series which has been running since mid-June, also taking place over Alaska, Japan, Australia and Hawaii.
