Iran Claims, Country Developed Hypersonic Missile & Able To Transgress “All Defence Systems”

Iran has developed a hypersonic missile capable of penetrating all defence systems, according to General Amirali Hajizadeh, commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards aerospace unit.

Hypersonic missiles, like traditional ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, can travel at speeds exceeding five times the speed of sound.

“This hypersonic ballistic missile was developed to counter air defence shields,” Hajizadeh said, according to the Iranian news agency Fars.

“It will be able to breach all anti-missile defence systems,” said the general, adding that he believed it would take decades to develop a system capable of intercepting it.

He further said, this missile, which is designed to target enemy anti-missile defence systems, represents a significant generational leap in the field of missiles.

The announcement comes just days after Iran admitted to sending drones to Russia but has denied doing so since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On 16 October, the Washington Post reported that Iran was preparing to ship missiles to Russia, but Tehran dismissed the report as “completely false.”

Hypersonic missiles fly low in the atmosphere, potentially reaching targets faster than ballistic missiles.

Last year, North Korea's hypersonic missile test sparked fears of a race to acquire the technology.

Russia is currently leading the race to develop missiles, followed by China and the US.

Because hypersonic missiles are manoeuvrable, they are more difficult to track and defend against.

While countries like the United States have developed systems to counter cruise and ballistic missiles, the ability to track and destroy a hypersonic missile remains a mystery.
