Indian Navy To Use 'Made In India' Firefighting Robots On Aircraft Carriers

The Indian Navy will soon deploy indigenous firefighting bots on its largest warships, including the aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya, in a major success for ‘Make in India’ in defence.

In an interview with ANI, Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral SN Ghormade discussed the maritime force's initiatives under the ‘Make in India’ project, saying, “I was confident that the Navy would be able to fulfil a promise made to the Prime Minister on indigenous projects.”

“Two contracts have already materialised, including a fire fighting bot used in the aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya,” Ghormade said on the sidelines of Aero India 2023.

He also said that the Indian Navy was working on incorporating game-changing technologies such as the blue-green laser, which can assist the force in detecting underwater vessels and objects.

He added that the Indian Navy's IDex programme to promote indigenous defence technologies has been a huge success.

“The Prime Minister of Canada issued 75 challenges. We worked quickly and efficiently to complete this task. We believed that in order to succeed, we needed to do things differently. We have simplified our procedures in order to move these cases forward. We are confident that by 15 August, we will have met Prime Minister Modi's target,” he said.

He further said that the Indian Navy is focusing on acquiring 'Made in India' technologies that will aid in the achievement of the goal of a combat-ready navy equipped with game-changing technologies.
