The Indian Navy is showing its presence and reach at multiple places simultaneously in West Asia, Africa and the Southern Indian Ocean to demonstrate its capability as the leading maritime power in the Region.
On May 9, an Indian Navy P8I Long-Range Maritime Reconnaissance and Anti-Submarine Warfare aircraft landed in the French island of Reunion in the Southern Indian Ocean for a five-day deployment.
During this time, it will undertake coordinated surveillance missions with French warships operating in the area to enhance maritime safety and security in the Southern Indian Ocean, including the Mozambique Channel, the Indian Navy stated.
The P8I aircraft, with their advanced capabilities, endurance & demonstrated reach, had previously operated from La Reunion in March 2020.
The Indian and French navies have been regularly undertaking coordinated operations as part of the Varuna series of bilateral exercises.
A frontline Indian destroyer, INS Kolkata, which is on anti-piracy patrol in the Gulf of Aden, made a goodwill visit to Djibouti from May 4 to 7.
The Commanders of the National Navy of Djibouti and the Commander-in-Chief of the Djibouti Coast Guard Colonels Ahmed Daher Djama and Wais Omar Bogoreh boarded INS Kolkata and interacted with the Indian Navy crew led by Captain Prashant Handu.
“The courtesy and camaraderie exhibited by the Djibouti Coast Guard and Navy to INS Kolkata reflects the strong friendship they share with the Indian Navy,” the Indian Navy stated.
In a third overseas deployment, ships of the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron are on a visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as part of a five-nation tour.
Captain Aftab Ahmed Khan, Senior Officer, First Training Squadron along with Commanding Officers of the 1TS ships called on Rear Admiral Yahya Bin Mohammed Al-Assiri, Western Fleet Commander of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.
“Issues of bilateral Naval cooperation and training initiatives between the two countries were discussed. During the visit, the ships will be involved in interaction with officials from Royal Navy of Saudi Arabia and various other dignitaries as well as training exchange,” the Indian Navy stated.
