The Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar on Monday underlined Indian Navy’s commitment to being completely self-reliant by 2047.
The navy admiral was addressing the Naval Commanders’ meeting onboarding the country’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant off Goa.
Hari’s remark came following defence minister Rajnath Singh’s national urge to be ready for unpredictable future conflicts.
He stressed the Indian Navy has committed the national leadership to be 100 per cent self-reliant, ‘Atmanirbhar’ by 2047.
Hari emphasised the Navy’s Tropex war game with over 40 warships and submarines participating in the exercise saying we have completed our largest exercise called ‘Tropex’ which started in December. And from the past three months have been continuously followed by the ships, submarines, aircraft and special forces tests deploying in the length and breadth of the Indian Ocean, the Navy chief added.
He said the learnings and results of Tropex were discussed during the naval commanders’ conference to help identify challenges, gaps in capabilities and equipment.
We are looking forward to the results of the recent exercise and the shortcomings, to improve and add the capability if required, Kumar said.
The chief admiral suggested considering the perspectives and inputs from different people involved in the operations and prosecuting any task, all policy decisions about acquisitions, force plans and other aspects will be looked at.
