The Indian Air Force (IAF) is taking part in Exercise Shinyuu Maitri alongside the Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF). The exercise is being held alongside the Indo-Japan Joint Army Exercise Dharma Guardian, which is being held in Komatsu, Japan, from 13 February to 2 March.
The IAF is sending one C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to participate in Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23.
The first phase of the exercise includes discussions about transport operations and tactical manoeuvring, followed by flying drills with IAF C-17 and JASDF C-2 transport aircraft.
The exercise, according to the Indian navy, allows the respective subject matter experts to interact and study each other's operational philosophies and best practices. The exercise will also help the IAF and JASDF improve their mutual understanding and interoperability.
“Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23 will be yet another step in the two countries' expanding defence cooperation, as well as for the IAF to operate in diverse environments around the world,” the IAF said.
The exercise taoccurs simultaneouslys the IAF's heavy lift transport aircraft fleet participates in Exercise Desert Flag VIII in the UAE and Exercise Cobra Warrior in the United Kingdom.
