Defence Manufacturer Saab To Set Manufacturing Plant In India

Saab, a Swedish defence manufacturing company, announced that it will set up a manufacturing plant in India to produce its Carl-Gustaf M4 weapons system as it tries to increase output.

The upcoming facility will start production in 2024. The company said in a statement that the new facility will support its products and components for system users worldwide.

However, the Indian Armed Forces have purchased the Carl-Gustaf M4 rifle.

India has been working to increase its defence manufacturing capabilities and increase its military exports in recent years. India is the largest purchaser of Russian weapons worldwide.

Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the country now exports more than Rs 130 billion worth of military hardware, which grew from roughly Rs 10 billion eight years ago.

At a conference of defence manufacturers, Singh stated that we have set a target of Rs 1.75 trillion of defence output by 2025, which includes the export of Rs 350 billion.

Since the war started in Ukraine, there has been a rise in interest in the Carl-Gustaf armament system, which can be used against tanks.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow refers to as a "special military operation," has led numerous nations to increase their defence spending.

Saab announced earlier this year that it would increase capacity to satisfy escalating demand.
