Up to 13,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since Russia launched its ongoing war on 24 February, according to a top government official in Kyiv.
Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, told Ukrainian media on Thursday that we have official evaluations by the General Staff, official assessment by the commander-in-chief (Zelensky) and they range from 10,000 to 12,500-13,000 killed, the BBC reported.
He also said that the number of civilians killed may be “significant.”
Podolyak also claimed that up to 100,000 Russian soldiers had been killed since the invasion began, with another 100,000 to 150,000 injured, missing or unable to return to combat.
The Ukrainian military, however, has not confirmed Podolyak's tally.
The most recent figures come after General Mark Milley, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff said last month that approximately 100,000 Russian and 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed or injured.
However, according to Moscow's most recent update in September, only 5,937 troops have been killed since the war began.
According to the American General, 15 and 30 million refugees have been created since Russia launched its invasion. The UN has recorded 7.8 million Ukrainian refugees across Europe, including Russia.
