China Raises GSI Against 'Asian NATO' Amid New Cold War Threat

Amid the security partnerships between the United States (US), India and Japan, Chinese President Xi Jinping is now extending his support to the Global Security Initiative (GSI) to face the 'Asian NATO'.

According to the media reports, China has been trying to get support for GSI from the smaller Asian countries and pressurising Nepal to pledge its support.

Earlier in July, Hao Yanqi, China's ambassador to Nepal claimed that the Himalayan nation had agreed to join the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the GSI.

Also, Nepal's former Deputy PM Sujata Koirala raised the question in National Assembly and tried to know Nepal's stand on China's GSI but the government didn't respond.

Later, she said, according to our foreign policy, we don't become part or alliance of any security organisation.

Koirala added that the governments of Nepal have always maintained a distance from all security alliances. This was revealed in the year 2018 when Nepal distanced itself from the BIMSTEC joint military exercise.
