Brahmos Missile Successfully Flight-Tested

The test firing of the supersonic missile, BrahMos, was successfully flight-tested for the first time from the Indian Air Force's frontline fighter, Sukhoi-30MKI. The missile was tested against a sea-based target in the Bay of Bengal.
BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between the Defence Research and Development Organisation and NPOM of Russia.
It is a two-stage missile with a solid propellant booster engine at its first stage which brings its supersonic speed and then gets separated. The liquid ramjet or the second stage then takes the missile closer to 3 Mach speed in cruise phase.
The missile has a flight range up to 290-km with supersonic speed all through the flight, leading to shorter flight time and consequently ensuring lower dispersion of targets, quicker engagement time and non-interception by any unknown weapon system in the world.
The missile was gravity dropped from the aircraft and the two-stage missile’s engine fired up and propelled it towards the intended target during the test firing of the missile.
“Many countries have shown an interest in acquiring the missile system, but the question regarding the exportation of the missile is up to the central government”, said Mr.Mishra.
