The mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Masood Azhar could be arrested by Pakistan before the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) plenary session in October.
Pakistan is believed to be under pressure from the US to capture the Jaish-e-Mohammed chief.
Masood Azhar is one of India's most wanted terrorists. India has been consistently using the FATF platform to ask Islamabad to take action against terrorist groups in Pakistan. Pakistan, however, asserted that it had already achieved the major task that the FATF had prescribed.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan said in a statement, “The country has complied with 38 out of 40 FATF demands, placing us among the top complying countries in the world.”
FATF is a global watchdog to combat money laundering and terrorism financing.
But, according to a recent report published by the Asia-Pacific Group (APF), the regional affiliate of FATF, “Pakistan had a moderate level of effectiveness on only one out of 11 outcomes.”
