After Terror Attack In J&K, Centre To Deploy 18 Additional CRPF Companies

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will send an additional 18 companies to Jammu and Kashmir in response to recent civilian deaths in two new terror attacks in the Rajouri district, according to sources.

The 18 CRPF companies, totalling approximately 1,800 personnel, will be rushed to the Jammu region for deployment, primarily in the districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

According to reports, eight CRPF companies will be deployed very soon from nearby deployment locations in Jammu and Kashmir, while ten CRPF companies are being rushed from Delhi.

According to the source, the move was prompted by a recent order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs in response to intelligence about a terror attack in the Jammu region.

On Sunday evening and Monday morning, two separate terror attacks in Upper Dangri village in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district killed six people and injured many more.

Two children were killed and several others were injured in Rajouri's Upper Dangri village on Monday morning after a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast.

Another suspected IED was spotted in the area near Upper Dangri village, about eight kilometres from Rajouri town, according to ADGP Mukesh Singh.

According to officials, the explosion occurred near the house where four civilians were killed and many more were injured by terrorists in a shooting incident on Sunday evening.

Since Sunday evening, two terrorist attacks have reportedly injured nearly a dozen people. The injured were being treated in a hospital in Jammu.

On Sunday evening, two armed terrorists barged into three homes separated by about 50 metres and opened fire indiscriminately. The attack killed four civilians and injured six others.

These are the third such incident of civilian killings in the Rajouri district in the last two weeks, following the deaths of two people outside an Army camp on 16 December.

The attack has caused widespread panic in the area. Several organisations have called for a strike to respond to the incident and demand immediate action. The Army and the CRPF have launched a massive search for the two “armed men” responsible for the Upper Dangri village attack.

Manoj Sinha, the LG of Jammu and Kashmir, has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh and a government job for the kin of those killed in the shooting incident.

“The next of kin of each civilian killed in the heinous attack will be given an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh and a government job. Serious injuries would be compensated with Rs 1 lakh. Officials have been directed to provide the best possible care to those injured,” the LG office issued a statement.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also visited the village.
