A 22-year-old Jawan, from Haryana who joined Army in 2006 is accused of sharing confidential information related to the army with a Pakistani woman who is suspected to be an ISI agent.
The Jawan, Sombir has been arrested at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on Friday.
Sepoy Sombir, who is currently in police custody, is being interrogate by the Rajasthan police. The Jawan is accused of passing crucial information to the Pakistani agent who he met on Social Media seven months ago. The police suspect the social media account originated in Pakistan's Karachi.
According to the sources the fake account is run by a women named Anika chopra, introduced herself as an officer with Army Medical corps. She later accused to share information in the lure of money.
It was found that money was transferred by E-wallet to Sombir’s account. Later, he transferred the money to his brother’s account. She started gathering information about the strategic places in the bordering area, police said. Sombir allegedly shared confidential information and photographs with the woman.
An officers said, "Sombir was sharing very intimate messages with Anika." He said that Sombir’s mobile has been seized for further investigation. It was said that he came in contact with the woman agent during his training period.
Police said that till 2017, the ISI used locals to spy on the army deployment, but the network was decimated in 2018, following which they began "preying on new army recruits."
According to the sources Anika approached several people having army profile in social media. She held many accounts so that she can trap as many jawans and get classified military information.
The police have registered case against him under various sections of Officials Secret Act and Indian Penal Code.
